The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad company built the bunkhouse structure in 1922 to provide shelter for the section hands who maintained the railroad. This is one of several such facilities built for each section ten to thirty miles apart. The bunkhouse, one of the few remaining, included 11 units and an adjacent foreman’s house.

In 2001, Bill McBride, Julia Fabris McBride, and Karl Rohlich purchased Matfield Station. The historic Santa Fe building was “one good rain away” from collapse, and they couldn’t stand to see the bunkhouse disintegrate.

The Bunkhouse now has 2 units available for overnight stays. We love the views, open space and fresh air, horses across the road, Flint Hill sunsets, and wind on the prairie.

Cottonwood Falls. Sleeps 6 in three bedroom with 2.5 baths. This magnificent guest house was built as a “spec house” in 1996. It was once home to the former president of Exchange National Bank. George A. McNee, grandfather of current owner, was also president of the bank from 1910 to 1920. The home is decorated with family keepsakes from the family’s long history in Chase County, beginning in the 1870s.

This recently remodeled prairie house is fully furnished and will sleep up to 6 guests. This Lark Inn Guest house is ready for your stay with a fully equipped, kitchen, dishware and linens! If you are very still, you may even hear the sound of your stress falling away!

“The Flint Hills don’t only take your breath away . . . they allow you to breathe!”

Prairie PastTimes

220 1/2 Broadway Cottonwood Falls, Ks 66845 620.273.6003 Show Map | Return to top.

In an effort to give people a hand-crafted item to remind them of the craftsmanship of the past, the artists and creators at Prairie PastTimes offer something to behold, touch, see, enjoy, hear, use, and wear. The members of Prairie PastTimes have a passion for the quality and process of making things with their hands. They can take a block of wood, a sheet of glass, a piece of cold steel, an old lump of clay, a single musical note, a scene on the prairie, a piece of thread, a piece of cloth, and turn it in to something you can love and treasure. The amount of energy, thought, work and skill honed over time that goes into each piece represents the artist’s love of life and their place, the Flint Hills. The process they follow is slow and meticulous, more reminiscent of past times. In our mass-produced world, you can buck the trends and take home a unique work of beauty, connected to a wonderful place and designed by a real person with a creative heart and skilled, caring hands.

For The Love Of Family

I’m Geneva and I’m a family and portrait photographer from Cottonwood Falls, Kansas! I offer sessions for families, newborns, high school seniors, engagements, and children. Please read on to learn more about what I can do for you!

The Story of Rosebud Studio

Welcome To My Crazy/Beautiful World!

Thank you for stopping by! My photography journey began many years ago with a desire to make time stand still and create the beautiful images that I see in my mind before anyone else sees them in print or online. I want my images to tell a joyful story of family and love that will emulate those happy feelings throughout the years. As a wife and mother of three crazy/wonderful babes, my family is the most important thing to me. Photography is my creative outlet that I’ve been longing to embrace wholeheartedly for a long time. I’m so excited to be able to finally jump headlong into my dream and provide my services to those who want me to help tell their story. My goal for each session is to provide images which I would be proud to display in my own home. I’m on a never-ending journey to learn and continue to improve myself and my craft.

The name “Rosebud Studio” comes from my nickname that my grandfather gave me when I was little. My middle name is Rose so he always referred to me as his “Rosebud.” He passed away in 2005 but has always held a special place in my heart. We named our youngest son, Albert, after him. My daughter’s middle name is also Rose and now she is my “Rosebud.” When it came time to name my business I went through so many options, but none of them resonated with me like Rosebud Studio and I knew that was going to be it.

In addition to photography, I also run a licensed home daycare. Children are very important to me which goes hand-in-hand with my emphasis on the importance of family. My family is my world and photography is my passion. I would be honored to be allowed to help you tell the story of this moment in time for your family!

Proudly serving Chase, Lyon, Coffey, Marion, Morris, and surrounding counties!
