South Broadway in Cottonwood Falls
Australian performer NICK CHARLES returns to Cottonwood Falls Sunday, October 8 for an afternoon concert on Broadway. A finger-pickin’ style guitarist, known as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues” first performed locally in the early 2000s, when the Emma Chase Cafe hosted his first local performance following his appearance at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
Nick has released a dozen albums on Australian and U. S. labels, including his latest “The River Flows” which saw him awarded the 2016 “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Solo Performer of the Year” in the Melbourne blues scene. He was named “Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year 2014” (Australia’s highest folk accolade) and is twice winner of the Australian Song Contest. A recent recognition is the 2016 “Age” Blues Album of the Year, the most prestigious album award in his home state.
Nick has toured with and supported artists including John Hammond, Gary Clarke, Ralph McTell, Robyn Ford, Junior Wells, and B. B. King. He has toured the US eleven times in recent years.
This resume has had Nick signed to the Grammy award-winning label Solid Air Records USA (“Home of the World’s Finest Guitarists”.) The only other Australian recognized by the label is Tommy Emmanuel.
Nick is remembered locally for having written and recorded a lilting tune called “Down at the Emma Chase.”
Nick has asked to perform outdoors on Broadway, and the stage and sound system is ready. But we Kansans all know how very unpredictable October weather can be. Therefore, an back-up indoor venue is available. As always, bring lawn chairs for seating when you come to music in Cottonwood Falls. A $10.00 per person suggested gratuity all goes to the Artist.
