The 1915 barn at Pioneer Bluffs historic ranch has been restored to its original splendor. Fresh paint and repairs, along with new windows, make the exterior of the century-old barn look new. Accessibility to the cathedral-like hay loft has created an ideal space for dances, music, Prairie Talks, weddings, and other community events.
Gone are the days when most family life revolved around a country barn. But that rural way of life, and its unique story, is preserved at Pioneer Bluffs near Matfield Green.
And just in case you have space for a cute quote:
“The hay loft!” wrote Irene Rogler Palenske in her memories of growing up at Pioneer Bluffs in the early 1900s. “A haven for secrets and for stealing sparrow eggs and for stories told by my cousin Windy. We sat in the cupola before we dropped from the rafters into the new mown hay – dusty, scratchy, and buoyant – then scrambled back up the ladder to jump again.”
